The species accounts provide the natural history of the birds of Kentucky based on a lifetime of field observation and research. Monroe tells the story of the ornithologists who have worked in the state and also outlines the physiography of Kentucky as it relates to birding. Each species account informs us whether a bird is a permanent resident, winter resident, summer resident, visitant, or transient. Abundance data are also given.
